Ford going to build battery packs in house

[ 0 ] April 12, 2010 |

Ford announced earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show that they would control production of battery packs for their next-generation of electric vehicles. Ford has solidified these plans and has made the announcement that they will be building battery packs at the Rawsonville Components Plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Ford will be investing approximately $450 million in the plant to retrofit it for assembly of the batteries and will also bring new jobs to the area. These batteries will power hybrid and plug-in electric models of vehicles like the Ford Focus and Fusion.
