V6 Mustang goes for a drive
Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee was the location selected for a team of Ford engineers and a five driver team on June 23rd too see just how many laps they could make with the new 2011 Mustang V6. The goal they had in mind was 1000 laps around the track measuring just over one half of a mile.
After almost 12.5 hours later the Mustang coughed and rolled to a stop after completing 1,457 laps around the circuit. Their average speed was a conservative 43.9 mph but when looking at the numbers – 16 gallons of fuel over 776 some miles came out to just over 48 mile per gallon.
Considering that the 305hp V6 Mustang is rated at 30mpg highway, these numbers are impressive. Makes you wonder if Chevrolet will do a similar event to see what their numbers will bring.
