GM goes big on Volt’s battery warranty
General Motors has announced that the lithium ion battery pack in the Chevrolet Volt, slated for release in 2011, will be warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles. However, since GM has equipped the Volt with a range extending gasoline engine the battery pack falls under the same scrutiny as other emissions systems would, which is why it must be warranted for 8 years.
General Motors has been developing a battery pack for the Volt and has contributed 95 percent of the components within the 400 pound pack and has always intended it to last the life of the vehicle.
