General Motors has said that they will invest $163.2 million in three plants to prepare for the increased engine production for the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze, and an unnamed smaller model. Most of the money will go to GM’s Flint Engine Operations as they prepare to churn out Ecotec 1.4L 4-cylinder engines.
GM says that this influx of investment will help protect 184 jobs at the three plants and they’ll need every single one of them to meet the demand for 400 engines per day with an increase of up to 800 by the end of 2011. This is good news for the workers and economies in the towns where the plants are located!
