2011 Dodge Challenger specs underrated?
The latest HEMI engine, measuring 392 cubes, will be nestled snugly under the bonnet of the 2011 Challenger SRT8. Dodge has placed the horsepower numbers at a pleasant 470 with 470 ft-lbs of torque. Nothing wrong with those numbers at all, they put a smile on our faces, but as with all factory ratings they’re no doubt a little conservative.
InsideLine managed to get their paws on a 2011 Challenger and had enough time to go throw it on the roller and see what it really lays down. They recorded 452hp @ 6200rpm and 443 ft-lbs @ 4400rpm. Guessing that this was an automatic transmission with around 20% loss for drivetrain loss we’re looking at somewhere well over 500 ponies.
That just may be enough for a perma-smile if this is the case and not just a one-off reading. We’ll have to wait until the 2011 Challengers hit the street and people start posting their dyno numbers to see if Dodge has come to the knife fight with a gun.
