Finally, Ford is making a power play with its pony car and has notified NASCAR that it intends to race the Mustang in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series starting in 2013. Dumping this Fusion in favor of the Mustang takes advantage of the mindset that consumers can go to the dealer and buy the car they saw on TV Sunday.
We’ve wondered for years why Ford stuck family cars like the Taurus or even the Fusion on the track when they aren’t really thought of as performance vehicles, the Mustang is more fitting. This, of course, gets back to Ford’s old edict of Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday.
It also brings up the question if GM will bring on the Camaro for some pony car showdown action.
