It has seemed an eternity from rumor to road but the new Viper is finally here. Speculation on SRT’s bad mother has been flying around for months. Would it really be coming? Would it be ruined by the Fiat take over? Would it be nerfed by the economy and other financial issues? Well just about all the questions have been answered.
Behold… the 2013 SRT Viper! First off, lets get the number crunching out of the way… the new snake comes with 640 horse power and 600 foot pounds of torque. All from a naturally aspirated engine. I’ll let that sink in for a moment. Also, while the Viper is still a brute force machine, it definitely has some new refinements that add to the OOOOH AHHH factor. The new Viper will come in two flavors, the SRT and GTS models. Quoting Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of the Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports the SRT model is meant to “offer a perfect blend of extreme performance and a deliberate preservation of what has become the iconic DNA of the Viper.” The GTS model will offer a few more creature comforts and technology upgrades. Combine that with the addition of a noticeably beefed up suspension, Sabelt brand seats, and a real audio entertainment system and you can most definitely see this isn’t your father’s Viper. We’ve seen the video of the new Viper beating on the Nurburgring, now we will just have to see how the road ready model stacks up. I have a feeling it will do a little more than hold its own.
