Autoblog is reporting that Chrysler LLC will be redesigning the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger for the 2011 model year and both will be projected to beat CAFE standards. In order to do this, Chrysler is looking at modifying the current transmission into an eight speed automatic to improve performance and fuel economy, as well as upgrade the engine, axle ratios, and overall aerodynamics. Chrysler’s new engine, being called the new “Phoenix Family”, are a group of six cylinder motors that offer variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation, and direct injection technologies. If everything goes well, we may just see these new technologies show up in other platforms such as Jeep’s lineup.
