Rumors across the intarweb have come up regarding Ford’s Shelby GT500 engine block utilizing the aluminum block from the Ford GT. These rumors are untrue and have been confirmed by Ford engineers. “The reason for the iron block is that the aluminum unit from the Ford GT is designed for a dry sump lubrication system and there is nowhere to package the oil reservoir in the production Mustang”.
