Sunpro Continues the Performance Legend with Sun Retro Tachometers

During the 1960s and ’70s, the iconic Sun and Sun Super Tachs decorated the dash of hot rods and muscle cars around the country.

Today, that legend lives on as performance parts manufacturer Sunpro(r) introduces their new line of Retro Tachometers featuring the nostalgic styling of the past enhanced by the modern electronics of today.

“Sun Super Tachs are one of the most recognizable tachometers among automotive enthusiasts today,” said David Schaar, director of marketing services, SPX Service Solutions. “Our new Sunpro Retro Tachometer line has been carefully reproduced to match the original Sun and Sun Super Tachs, and we are thrilled to launch an updated version of this classic performance part.”

Sunpro’s Sun Super 3 3/8-inch Retro Tachometer (SST802R) is designed with a 250° dial sweep and 360° through-the-dial lighting that allows for better night visibility. It also features the company’s popular blue line styling and adjustable red shift pointer.

The Sunpro Sun 3 3/8-inch Retro Tachometer (FZ88R) features a 90° dial sweep as well as 360° lighting.

Both Retro Tachs have vibration proof air-core meter construction to ensure accuracy and reliability with fast needle response covering the 0-8,000 RPM range. Internal settings can be adjusted for one-, two-, four-, six-, eight- and ten-cylinder engines. Featuring all-metal housing with removable chrome metal cup, the tachometers include two mounting brackets for positioning on either the dash or the steering column.

Sun was founded in 1935 in Crystal Lake, Ill., and the original Sun Super Tach was introduced 30 years later in 1965. Sun tachs gained consumer recognition as OE parts on 1960s-era Pontiac, Chrysler, Ford and AMC performance models and by 1970, the tachs were in high demand across the U.S., appearing on speed shop shelves from coast to coast.

Sun was the first company to design tachs beyond black and white, as well as introduce bright pointers, large chrome bezels and color on faces.

For more than 50 years, Sunpro has meant performance with such classic products as the Sun Super Tach II(r), inspired by the company’s rich motorsports heritage.
