 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Test Drive

The very first production 2008 Dodge Challenger sold for a final bid of $400,000 this past weekend at the annual Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all of the proceeds going to charity. Equipped with a 6.1-liter Hemi V8, 5-speed automatic transmission, navigation, sunroof and performance tires.  Pre-Production Dodge Challenger Spotted
SEMA.org reports, "Dodge's all-new musclecar will be built on the new RWD platform in Ontario, Canada. Production will start in the spring of 2008, and the Challenger will go on sale shortly afterwards as a 2008 model. Pricing is expected to start around $31,000, although it's rumored that the R/T models have all been pre-sold in the 50K range. A convertible is also expected. The official debut of the (production) Challenger will be on February 6, 2008, at the Chicago Auto Show, just 222 days away. Chrysler Confirms Challenger SRT-8
"Chrysler Group has confirmed that it will build a high-performance version of the Dodge Challenger. It is expected to launch sometime after the 2009-model base car rolls out. The SRT-8 Challenger will be based on the next-generation LX platform, the LY. Currently, the LX platform serves the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans and the Dodge Magnum. Currently the SRT-8 products are equipped with a 6.1L, Hemi V8.". Source: SEMA.org.

 Chrysler Sold, What's Next?
According to SEMA, "Despite the sale of Chrysler group by DaimlerChrysler, powertrain analysts at CSM Worldwide expect the restructured Chrysler to remain highly competitive in the powertrain arena well into the next decade. According to a recent CSM Worldwide press release, Chrysler has been aggressively procuring designs and outsourcing powertrain production from its global partners. The link that will be maintained with Daimler AG will be a key element of this strategy."

 Chrysler Group To Be Sold For $7.4 Billion
"German-based DaimlerChrysler said Monday it will sell almost all of money-losing Chrysler to a private equity firm for $7.4 billion, backing out of a troubled 1998 takeover aimed at creating a global automotive powerhouse. Eighty percent of Chrysler Group, burdened by high pension and health costs and declining market share in the United States, will be sold to Cerberus Capital Management LP."
